At last! Our long-awaited and much-delayed Los Angeles showroom opened on December 10th. I can proudly say it was worth the wait. We have introduced our Waterworks Kitchen brand to the L.A. market with displays of our Alta and Belden cabinetry styles for the bar, laundry, pool house and mud room, as well as kitchens in wood stains and great paint colors. Each installation includes subtle or bold backsplashes, fabulous stone counters, boldly scaled pot racks, practical work tables and tempting kitchen accessories.

My dear friend, Carole Glaser, the shopping bag collector, accumulator of hats, pictures, pins and other original vintage shop finds has a delightful collection of candlesticks that I could not resist photographing. Each stick has a story or two. And, her personal vision for their display is to place them all together at one end of her dining table. They make quite a statement.

Light in any part of the house is essential, of course. But in the bath, where you need light for close up activities like applying makeup and shaving, lovely mood lighting will be pretty but ineffective as the only light source. There are many different types of lights to consider as you plan your bath; “high hats” or recessed lights, surface mounted ceiling lights, lamps, chandeliers, pendants and finally sconces. In the world of the bath, several of these types of lights can be used simultaneously even in small spaces. But, after the ambient choices have been decided, it is the decorative lighting that adds style and design to the bath.

I am most certainly NOT a lighting expert so my comments in this category are more practical that educated. But there is one thing I know for certain; you can never have too much light in your bath for applying makeup, taking out splinters and all those other eye straining rituals. It is a great bonus if your bath has natural light.  You can enjoy the seasonal shifts from bright morning light in the spring and summer to soft evening light in the fall and winter.
