I have had an enthusiastic response to my posts about color, so I thought I would continue with this black, white and red powder bath. It is definitely a bold statement for a small space, especially since the ceiling has been covered in a graphic patterned wallpaper.

Red lacquer is a vote of decorating confidence. In this case there is a nod to a Chinese influence with the square pulls. The vanity is shaped for accent, as is the black marble top without an overhang. Keeping the palette and decoration simple is most effective. Torchere-like sconces and an unusually small mirror (necessary to accommodate the unusually low ceiling) are just enough for this small room.

It is exactly the kind of space to step out of your comfort zone. This is not a bath where you are encouraged to linger, and the surprise elements are conversation worthy for guests.
