This month, we’re celebrating the kitchen at Waterworks.  This gives me another opportunity to talk about faucets for the kitchen, bar, laundry, potting shed and mud room, as I have done in the past. There are so many options available that it is difficult to make the right choice from the many faucets in the market.

The qualifiers that should drive your decision are as follows: form and function are the classic pair, comfort, how does it feel in your hand, finish, design integrity, quality and craftsmanship (a longevity factor) and finally, your own style and taste from modern simplicity to classic elegance.

We have said many times that the kitchen is the heart of the home. It is a very personal space where family and friends gather (no matter how much you try to get them to go to the living spaces). The kitchen is a reflection of your personal routines and rituals. With that in mind, it is important that the entire space demonstrates an elegant layering of materials, color choices that are consistent with the rest of the house. The result should assume a comfort that that is inviting and welcoming.

I mentioned materials and layering. There is so much of that in the kitchen, from the cabinets to the hardware, the floor to the wall color, the backsplash, the window treatments, the countertop and finally the faucet. It is the faucet for all of the rooms mentioned (bar, laundry, potting shed, mud room) that is the most used and most visible. Think of your choice as you would a piece of jewelry for your black dress. It defines the style.
