It has been nearly 40 years since my husband Robert and I founded Waterworks. During that time I have sold countless bathrooms, answered what seems like millions of questions, solved many problems, designed any number of iconic products and created a bath style that has endured over the years.

It is no secret that I love tile. I am very familiar with white or red clay body tile, and as in the case of Grove Brickworks, brown clay.  However, our new collection of tile, Magma, is created from the materials spilled from an erupting volcano. As its name suggests, Magma has a unique texture and chemistry; the body composition is a charcoal gray fine-grained lava mixed with other minerals.

I love to start the New Year with a purge of closets, medicine cabinets, and when I have the energy, accumulated stuff from my cellar. So far, I’ve done the closet and there is a nice pile of clothing for Dress for Success, one of my favorite charities.

On my recent trip to San Francisco to celebrate the opening of our new Waterworks showroom, I decided to take a little extra time to visit SFMoMA and experience their new 10-story building and galleries designed by the international architecture firm of Snohetta.
