The very talented interior designer, Francophile and author—Betty Lou Phillips—has recently released her new book, French Impressions. In the book we are treated to an abbreviated history of three Bourbon monarchs—the Louis—-whose passion for beauty has influenced hundreds of years of finely crafted furniture, regal woven textiles, gilded mirrors and crystal chandeliers. The French self assured approach to design, its old-world elegance and understated luxury is the approach taken by Betty Lou as she decorated her own house. French Impressions gives us an in depth look at her personal style and sophisticated taste.

On May 18th I wrote a post about pressure balance shower valves. A plumbing tutorial is not complete without a discussion of thermostatic shower valves. So, once again, I will try to demystify the terminology and give you the tools to create the ultimate showering experience.

I believe that the perfect bath should be defined by how it makes you feel. Your starting place, or inspiration, should come from the experience you want to create.  The first place to look is you; think about the colors that you like because your choices will have profound results, your sense of order and refinement or your uncanny ability to bring the perfect amount of chaos to a situation, the amount of light that hides your wrinkles and your psychic comfort.   If you’re a music lover you should plan for some good equipment and It’s always lovely to have a favorite piece of art or a place for a vase of flowers in the space.
