This week I am pleased welcome Suzanne Tucker, friend, fellow Board member of the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art and  preeminent nationally known interior designer to The Perfect Bath. Her new book, The Romance of Design, has just been released. Below is Suzanne’s post:

Clearly, I am newly obsessed with wallpaper.  It has been years since the word has been in my vocabulary.  Today, it seems a new and fresh concept especially for the bath.  It can add color and pattern and even architecture that is often missing in a space. If you are timid about installing multiple rolls of wallpaper in a large master bath, you can take baby steps by papering a powder bath.  The space will be transformed. And no need to be subtle with your choice of wallpaper. If you decide in a year or two that it is overwhelming or you have changed your mind about pattern, just take it down.

I am often asked where I find inspiration for the countless products we design at Waterworks. My first answer is always museums, although travels, architecture, books, magazines and fashion are in close pursuit. I was very excited to visit the newly renovated Yale Art Gallery where the changed and expanded spaces were inspirational and the art and decorative arts look remarkable in their new homes. And, last weekend we decided to go Dia: Beacon, Riggio Galleries in Beacon, New York, a short distance from where we live, to see some eye popping contemporary art.

In 1999, Waterworks participated in the Kips Bay show house with Thomas O’Brien, which coincided with the launch of the highly original and extremely beautiful Aero fittings. Looking through O’Brien’s new book, Aero: Beginning to Now, I am reminded of this earlier work and his influence in the design community.
