There is nothing more divine than  a  long soak in a fabulous bathtub that fits your body, including the contours of your back, the width of your shoulders and enough room to stretch your legs. On the more practical side, it is important to note that bathtubs are linked to drains, fastened to walls, and tiled in.  So if you don’t like yours, it is aggravating and expensive to replace it.

It is so much fun to talk about products and materials for a new bath. There are so many great options. But long before you set foot out of the door to go shopping, you have to make deliberate decisions about design and planning.

I love Washington, DC.  It has great museums, lovely neighborhoods, very good restaurants, and in Georgetown especially, individually owned shops that express the point of view of the owner. One of my favorites is the antiques shop of Marston Luce. The moment you look in the window you are captivated. There is always a wonderful display of well worn furniture with soft patina, garden ornaments often with moss growing on them and beautiful decorative objects.  Up the steps and open the door and you are transported to the South of France.

Robert  and I recently visited our friend George Schoellkopf at his Hollister House Garden, now a project of the Garden Conservancy. George has formed a non-profit corporation that will eventually own and maintain the property for the benefit of the public.  We applaud his extraordinary generosity.  There are so many design ideas executed in the garden I thought I would share the experience with you.
